Background of the Study
During his tenure, Muhammadu Buhari focused on implementing economic recovery policies aimed at addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges, such as inflation, high unemployment, and a reliance on oil exports. The administration's economic recovery strategy included initiatives like the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP), which sought to diversify the economy, improve agricultural productivity, enhance infrastructure, and reduce the country’s dependency on crude oil. Kano South, an area with a large agrarian population, has felt the impact of these policies, particularly through initiatives focused on improving agricultural output and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Despite these efforts, the economic recovery has faced challenges, including external economic shocks, regional disparities, and the need for better implementation at the local level. This study will investigate how Buhari’s economic recovery policies were implemented in Kano South and assess their effectiveness in improving the local economy.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the introduction of various economic recovery policies by Buhari’s administration, the effectiveness of these policies at the local level, especially in rural areas like Kano South, remains uncertain. While some economic sectors have experienced growth, the area continues to face challenges such as low investment in infrastructure, high unemployment, and limited access to credit for local businesses. This study will explore the extent to which Buhari’s policies have influenced economic recovery in Kano South and identify the barriers to their success.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on the impact of Muhammadu Buhari’s economic recovery policies on Kano South, Kano State. It will assess the effect of these policies on local industries, agriculture, and economic activities, as well as the challenges faced in the implementation process. The study is limited to the period of Buhari’s administration and will not cover policies introduced after his tenure.
